Calabasas Business Owners Support Ukraine With Supplies
The Ukrainian-born owners of Calakids in Calabasas are sending boxes of clothes and supplies to Ukraine amid Russia’s invasion.
Children’s Clothing Store, Calakids, has teamed up with a nonprofit to help support Ukrainians amid Russia’s ongoing invasion.
Store owners Marianna Lunner and Nelly Cobos were both born in Ukraine, ABC7 reported. The owners first started collecting items from their store to ship to Ukraine. They eventually reached out to the Calabasas community to donate items, according to ABC7.
To help get their items to Ukraine, the store teamed up with the Global Empowerment Mission, a nonprofit that responds to disasters across the globe. The owners plan to send one weekly shipment for as long as necessary, they said in an Instagram video. Shipments can be as large as 100 boxes full of clothes and other essential items.
“It just blew up, it became this huge undertaking,” Cobos told ABC7. “We got so much support from our community and friends and vendors, and I mean the outpouring of love has been absolutely overwhelming.”
The store asked community members on Instagram to donate essential items for women and children like:
- Diapers, Baby wipes, Baby food and Formula, Feminine Hygiene Products and More
They also requested some entertainment items for children, like crayons and toys.
The store also set up an Amazon wishlist for people who want to donate but can’t make it to the Calabasas donation center.
“This is beyond the support of our birthplace, a place where our hearts will forever be. This is in support of a free society, a modern democracy, one in which is led by a modern day hero,” the owners wrote on Instagram. They added: “WE ARE PROUD UKRAINIAN-AMERICANS!!”
You can drop off donations to 23681 Calabasas Road, which is three doors down from Calakids. Purchase an item from the store’s Amazon wishlist using this link, and stay up to date on Calakids’ efforts by following their Instagram here.
Calakids is located in the Parkway Calabasas Shopping Center off Calabasas Rd.
